Lylena Yang is a Hmong fashion designer from Sacramento, CA, and has been designing for more than 15 years. She currently divides her time between Learn Hmong With Me, Collective Vision Fashion Design Competition, working on new designs for her fashion line: Lylena Hmong Couture, and her family: two girls, two boys, and a loving husband.
Ms. Yang has had some of her work published in several magazines including “18 Xyeem” and “Mar” where they showcased designers with innovative designs. She has worked with the Sacramento Hmong New Year Pageant as well as SEA Games USA Pageant as Fashion Coordinator designing and sewing costumes and sashes for pageant contestants as well as pageant winners.
Ms. Yang holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Costume and Textiles from the University of California, Davis. She continues to expand her knowledge and skills by learning new techniques from masters, colleagues, and peers.
Lylena Yang has participated in several fashion shows including Fresh Traditions and Hmong Nouveau in Minnesota, Work that Catwalk in San Francisco, and the 2019 Hmong National Development Conference in San Jose. She has also worked with Hmong Story 40 as a Fashion Co-Lead and this experience has given her more appreciation for the different traditional techniques and recognize the importance and significance of Hmong motifs and textiles. She hopes to be able to bring more of these motifs and textiles to a modern audience.
Hmong Nouveau 2022
Lylena will be returning to Hmong Nouveau Fashion Show’s runway this year with an entirely new line she will be debuting.
